Are you ready to start the 2026 dive season stronger, more confident, and more comfortable underwater? Dive Buddy Scuba is excited to announce our “Fit to Dive” program, a flexible, community-focused initiative designed to help certified divers improve their fitness, air efficiency, and buoyancy while connecting with fellow divers. This program is perfect for divers who want to get in shape for upcoming trips, enjoy the social side of diving, and dive more efficiently and safely.

Whether you’re honing your finning technique, practicing controlled breathing, or building the strength and endurance needed to handle gear, Fit to Dive has you covered. Participants can follow at-home workouts, join optional pool sessions, and attend social check-ins and community events to stay motivated throughout the winter and early spring.

How the Program Works

Flexible & Free to Join: Participation in the program is completely free, and divers can choose which workouts, pool sessions, and social events fit their schedule.

Pool Sessions ($10 per session):

  • Wednesdays | 7:00–8:00 PM

  • All sessions take place at the Olympic Swim Club, providing a controlled environment for practicing finning, breathing, and buoyancy skills. Pool sessions are designed for all fitness levels, so whether you’re just getting back into the water or already active, you’ll find exercises that challenge and improve your diving performance.

At-Home Workouts: Each week, participants will receive guidance for strength, mobility, and cardiovascular exercises that improve diver-specific fitness. Exercises are simple, don’t require a gym, and focus on building core strength, leg power, flexibility, and breath control — all essential for a safe, efficient dive.

Community Check-Ins & Social Events:

  • Mid-program check-ins allow divers to connect, share progress, and review dive techniques.

  • Fun social gatherings give participants a chance to meet other divers, talk about upcoming trips, and celebrate their fitness milestones.

  • Optional challenges, such as distance swims, fin drills, and breathing exercises, keep training exciting and goal-oriented.

Program Timeline (February – April 2026)

February – Build the Foundation

  • Focus: Cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and relaxed breathing

  • Pool Sessions: Slow, controlled fin swims and breathing drills

  • At-home: Light cardio, stretching, and basic core work

  • Goal: Get your body ready for more challenging dive-focused workouts

March – Strength & Endurance

  • Focus: Core strength, leg power, and finning efficiency

  • Pool Sessions: Interval fin swims, frog kick drills, longer distances

  • At-home: Bodyweight exercises, planks, lunges, squats, and continued cardio

  • Goal: Build strength and stamina for longer, more comfortable dives

April – Dive-Ready & Confident

  • Focus: Endurance, buoyancy control, and dive simulation

  • Pool Sessions: Sustained finning, trim and hover drills, and efficiency practice

  • At-home: Combined cardio and strength circuits, mobility, and breath control exercises

  • Goal: Transition to real dives with improved air use, comfort, and confidence

End-of-Program Celebration: Participants will have the opportunity to meet at the shop or local gathering to celebrate progress, share experiences, and prepare for spring trips. Recognition may include awards for consistency, improvement, and community participation.

Why Fitness Matters for Divers

Fitness isn’t just about looking good on land — it directly impacts your diving performance. Here’s how:

  • Better Air Consumption: Aerobic fitness and controlled breathing mean you use less air and enjoy longer dives.

  • Easier Gear Handling: Strong legs, back, and core make lifting tanks, climbing ladders, and swimming with gear easier and safer.

  • Improved Buoyancy & Trim: Strong, flexible muscles allow you to maintain proper horizontal positioning, requiring fewer kicks and movements.

  • Reduced Fatigue & Risk: Fit divers experience less muscle fatigue, lower injury risk, and smoother decompression.

  • Mental Confidence: Fitness reduces stress responses and improves focus during unexpected situations underwater.

Instructor-Led Talks & Resources: Participants will have access to short talks during pool sessions explaining these principles, including exercises to improve air consumption and buoyancy. Additional reading and videos are provided to reinforce learning:

Important Health Advisory:

Before beginning any exercise or fitness program, including the Get Fit to Dive program, participants are strongly encouraged to consult with their physician or qualified healthcare provider, especially if they have any pre-existing medical conditions, injuries, or concerns. Scuba diving and physical activity place unique demands on the body, and it is each participant’s responsibility to ensure they are medically fit to participate safely in all workouts and pool sessions.
